Graves / Au Dunes

Just bought this beautiful record, called “summr bummr” by the band Graves, out since last november on st.ives records in the US, now in the EU. Portland´s Greg Olin is releasing records since 2002 under the name “Graves” for tiny labels like HUSH, PIAPTK or the Secretly Canadian sub label St. Ives. I´ve listened only to some of his tracks before, for the release “4 way split – north by northwest” together with Karl Blau, The Gift Maschine and Nate Ashley a few years ago, but this is the first full release, i´ve listened to.

Think of early Pavement and Little Wings for the way of singing, maybe as well Teenage Fanclub and Woods if it comes to the the melodies. But there are as well flutes, piano, wurlitzer and woo-hoo background choirs and the unique melancholic voice that creates an very own spectrum and a variety of sounds, that makes you listen to the LP over and over again.

So I´m happy to listen to another fresh sunny summer record since the amazing releases of woods, ducktails, fresh and only´s and real estate the last years in 2009 – 2011.

Listen here to one tune and buy it physically in Berlin still at ex)

His new more guitar orientated project is called “Au Dunes” – here is a free download of the 2 EP´s via his bandcamp site:
